I am wondering if you can buy domain names and for life or if you have to pay every month or every year..

there’s Nothing last for “life”..
No vendor (domain website owner/developer) ever get lasting life PC/Server..
According to their own term of service or Company Policy, each of another domain owner/developer have, they are always be paid, to maintain their “Service” to the customer.
Better try to call or e-mail different domain customer service support and ask them about their support service ability, to help you make better decision on finding the best one..

hamma it wont be free for life time if you buy once. As per you register your domain you have to pay it may be for 1month or 1 year. For more info visit godaddy

About 20 years ago there was only 1 organization you could purchase a domain name from. It was a long lengthy process and the renewal fee was $9.99 / year. To my knowledge, and I looked out there on the web, but I could not find anything other than free domain name as long as you pay for hosting for them, or a few sites that offer free domain name and free hosting as long as you use their domain name as part of yours.
