Yes, adsense pay both CPM and CPC. However, the CPM is very low (only few cents per 1000 impression) and therefore many people just ignore it.

They also pay per 1000 impressions (impressions is the number of visitors who view your pages for certain number of times).
You can’t make money only with displaying the ads there. You should properly blend them into your content and optimize with proper keywords.
If you do it then visitors will start clicking the adsense ads and it will start paying you.
Actually, it isn’t a long process but does take sometime for your website to get lots of clicks. It generally starts to happen within a month.
Do let me know who you are doing and hope this information helped.
Good luck

Google pays websites displaying Adsense ads when someone clicks on the ads. Advertisers bid for certain words and the bid amount is paid to the websites that the clicks were generated on. The ads that pay the most are computer related ads.

The answers are all WRONG
Adsense has a CPM component where advertisers pay you for displaying ads or per 1000 impressions, not just for clicks.
But to get CPM ads, it means the advertiser has to target your site specifically for SITE PLACEMENT

No. Adsense only pay for clicks. Why I say that? Because, in Adwords, Google only charges the advertiser if someone click their ads. If Adsense pays for displaying, i wonder where the money come from? Come from Google? I doubt so.

Alvin has given right answer.
Google charges in PPC just for clicks, than in adsense we can just earn from clicks.
