The description meta tag gives a brief description of your page. Both of these tags are used by the search engines for indexing. These are the tags that play a large roll in ranking (SEO). The description tag is the one commonly seen from entering a keyword in the search engine. When you google or yahoo this is the description provided about the site.

Hello guys I have little confusion about seo optimization. My question is that suppose a domain name that is 14 year old has 6000 links (check by typing link:www.domain.com). On the other side there is a site that is 8 year old and has 3000 links. Which domain will come top in the search assume that they both are optimized for the keywords. How big of role does domain age play when it comes to seo?

The difference between 14 yrs old and 8 yrs old will not matter at all. Domain age is really only a factor when sites are new or relatively new. Age of links is probably slightly more important.

Google page rank has over 200 parameters to come up with the page rank and the search engine results.
let me give you an example:
http://www.thebluedotgallery.com/
it has many code errors
it does not have the right meta tags and the whole code is built of tables.
but it is very popular and has page rank 4 – go figure…
