Question by Sandro A: How much does webhosting cost?
Say you have a big site like livejournal, dreamwidth, or greatestjournal. How much would their web hosting cost?

Larger sites like that would most likely have their own servers to run their website so that they do not have to pay hosting fees.

Question by justanswers: Is 25 GB a lot of web space?
I am trying to start my own web page and I don’t know what some stuff means.
Is 25 GB a lot of web space, I have a website I made with Publisher with about 10 links.
Also, what is a domain and subdomain? A webhoster said with the package I am looking at, it comes with 5 domains…does this mean that I can only have 5 links?
Any help would be great! Thanks!

25GB’s is a whole lot! You might want to start out a little smaller then grow as your Site grows. Meanwhile, check out this description.
domain name
A name that identifies one or more IP addresses. For example, the domain name microsoft.com represents about a dozen IP addresses. Domain names are used in URLs to identify particular Web pages.

Question by BCPix: Is there any recourse against web hosting company arbitrary shutdown?
6 months ago I posted a question about my dealings with Host Excellence, the web hosting company where I host 2 sites. Briefly the issue I was having was that although I had purchased and paid for an “unlimited” plan, which they advertise as unlimited web space. It turns out that there is all kinds of double-talk in there disclaimer that basically states that you really only get “fair share” of storage space, which, in my case topped out at about 11GB before I started to interfere with their servers and thy took me offline. I was able to get my sites back online by getting my storage space down to under 10 GB and now only have about 5GB of content up. I also removed a CGI script from my homepage which they claimed was slowing down their servers (although they profess to fully support CGI). This morning, even though I have not changed anything on the site in the past 6 months, since being re-instated, I was shut down again, for the same reason. They will not re-instate me until I agree to comply with their requirements, which they have not yet made clear to me. Which brings me tho my question:
Are all web hosting companies this shady? Do I have any recourse against their false claims or have they covered themselves in their fine print. I would love to move my sites off their servers and will probably do so when my prepaid agreement expires, but I don’t know how to determine what company might be more honest in their approach to dealing with their clients and would hate to end up in the same boat all over again with a different company. Also, to any prospective web hosters out there I would, at this point, have to recommend that you avoid Host Excellence, or at least not take their claims at face value!

I can understand your frustration but you should contact hosting providers before you start filling up your website with content. I personally use Chime Host and they offer the same option for unlimited space and unlimited bandwidth but i haven’t had that problem with them yet. I am using around 7 GB of space and so far things are okay. But I do know the moment my site utilizing excessive resources such as cpu, memory, ram, I will be asked to either upgrade to vps or cancel hosting. I researched every host out there before settling for chime host and only reason i settled with them is because they don’t force you to pay for 1 years or 2 years in advance. I am on month to month basis and I can leave whenever i want.

Question by Rockyman12: Whats the best web host ?
When i say the best i don’t mean all the features you can have. I mean reliable and trusted.
Hosts like justhost are raked number 1 in all web host review sites.
But when i found user review i found out that they all had bad experiences with the host.
Others like hostagator which were not even on the charts were rated the best by users.
So please give me an honest opinion on your experience. NOT FROM REVIEW SITES
Anyone had bad experience with ipage do you recommend it ?
