I was recently checking my account and some of my previous ads have been inactive for a couple of weeks. First, why did they become inactive? Secondly, how do I make them active again?

While free is appealing because -well it is free…if you are wanting to create a site on a specific topic and make money using adsense – a free site won’t be of much help. You need to be able to optimize the pages, create xml sitemaps, and create tons of content as well as get backlinks to get your site found on any search engine.
You can start with a free website or blog and practice writing and learning about what it takes to develop a site.
To make money with adsense you really need lots of pages and content because you only get a few cents a click unless you can create a site on high paying keywords. The Click through rates probably are somewhere between 3-10% is what my guess would be so that means you need lots of page impressions and lots of clicks to get anywhere.
It can be done though.
