Question by Mikey: If i trademark a name, will I be able to get the domain I once hadback?
I had the domain romantiqueinteriors.com for 2 years. Then I let it go (thinking no one would want it) and then I typed it today to find its “coming soon” I checked Whois and it says purchased in 2006, so do you think this could be a person “parked” on that domain?

If I get the name trademarked, will I be able to have legal power over this name? I also did a search online and found 1 person in the entire web that says in an interview they started a business called Romantique Interiors in the chicago area, I tried my best to find if its registered locally in chicago and I can’t see it listed, and apparently no one has trademarked the name as far as I can see. Please help me with this!

You have no legal right to a domain name, even with a trademark. I remember when the Center for Disease Control was trying to buy the domain name for “bird flu”, and the guy who owned it got into a bidding war with them for it. He was just some guy who had the foresight to buy the domain name before the pandemic broke out. They had to pay him big $’s to get control of it.

I buy domain from namecheap and buy webhosting from website like http://aplis.net/
May be you can put your website project at freelance website like http://getafreelnacer.com/ and let many web designers bid for your project, you can then hire whoever you like.

You’re still a long way from being able to get your domain name to come up on searches.

To get your domain name to come up in search results, you need several “ingredients”:-

1. A domain name (you’ve got this part)

2. Web hosting space (somewhere to upload your website on a web server. There are thousands of competing web hosting companies out there)

3. A website to upload to your web hosting space (you either have to make it yourself, or pay somebody else – a web designer – to make it for you). You might want to think about “SEO” (search engine optimisation) while you’re writing the content for your site. SEO involves thinking about the ways that people might find your site – the keywords they would search for – and then making sure they appear in places like your site’s TITLE and intro text

4. You need to point your domain name at your web hosting space. You should be able to do that by logging into your control panel at the domain name registrar that you registered your domain name through and reconfiguring the “DNS settings” for your domain name.

5. You need to promote your website, for example by blogging about it, talking about it on web forums, and so on. Gradually, your website should start to build up back-links and rank for various searches (and that’s how it will “come up in searches”)

There’s a lot more to the process and each of the bullet points above is a major task, but that’s the rough outline of everything you need to do to get your website online and ranking.

Good luck!

Question by tidefan2k4: If I sign up for domain hosting through google apps, will I be able to use my own html editor.?
I am doing a project for school and it must be done with Expression Web by Microsoft.

/yr domain hosting via Google sounds like a great deal if it is compatible with Expression Web.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, as long as the program you use saves the files in either:

.html , .htm , or .shtml

If it saves it as those types, then you can easily upload it to your google domain.

As for other things (javascript, flash, css, mysql, php) you would have to contact google and ask.

Hope this answers your questions :)
