Question by d a: Can anyone provide any advice on SEO (search engine optimization) for a website?
I own a small business in a very competitive field, and I am looking to improve and work on SEO for my website. Does anyone know of a company that does this work with reasonable rates? Or does anyone have any other good ideas in this area? I’d like to see my company’s name come up on google and yahoo searches. Thanks.

There is so much rubbish and out of date SEO advice on the web that it is very difficult to separate the truth from the fiction unless you are already an expert.

Forums are particularly bad because you get every possible shade of opinion and if you are a beginner you have no way of knowing what is correct.

I have found only two up to date, free, high quality tutorials:

Question by mzdiz_au: Seeking advice on web aussie domain server and how i get someone to set it up with all I require?
I need a domain name, a server and help to setup…I want a forum based site, with databases, photo section, live chat, all community based. Am totally iliterate in this area. Please can someone help?
It is webhosting I am chasing. It is also to be have adult content, which has caused us to be turned down by a couple of webhosts. I need a recommendation of a webhost, preferably aussie as I am one and it would be easier to contact, but this is not essential. What I would like to set up would have multiple databases, several forums for discussions, a photo gallery and a calendar. All accessable for our members from a main page. There would have to be logins and be a main front page with rules and expectations of intended members. I have no idea how to do any of this, I just know what I need to make this successful for our members, Costs are also a great consideration, Hopefully this added information helps you good people that are taking the time to answer my queries, Sincerely, Diz
Not porn – but is adult lifestyle/kink content

1.)When you say server do you mean hosting? If you mean hosting then you can get that at many webhosting sites (I suggest www.1and1.com), If you meant a server then I would suggest getting a vps from 1&1 too. With either package you get a free domain.

2.)Live chat thats pretty easy you need to find a IRC server which you can choose from (I suggest you look on http://searchirc.com/) and then download PJIRC and set up the config to your channel on the IRC server.

3.) Invasion forums or phpbb forums with good knowledge of CSS.

4.) Photo section comes with Invasion forums (I think)
or you could make your own using CSS, Flash, Or use Coppermine Photo Gallery.

Not to be forward but this sounds like a porn site :P
I would suggest getting a professional web designer or just learning the basics of webdesign and build up your knownledge of webdesign

I have been self-employed as a systems engineer for over 3 years and the best advice I ever got was don’t undervalue your services. It is much easier to give discounts than it will be to raise your rate in the future. Bill for every minute you work and then add lines to your invoice like “New customer discount” or give them a discount if the hit a certain number of hours each month/quarter/year. Be confident in your skills and what they are really worth. Don’t give it away. Let them know why you are giving them a discount. The second best advice I got was “A value that is not recognized is no value at all.” In other words, if your clients don’t know that you are doing something special for them they will come to expect it. List everything you do on your invoice. The final advice is to form a LLC or a business entity that will separate your work from your personal life. If for some reason a client wants to take legal action they will have to take it towards your “company” not you. They cannot go after your personal possessions. Self-employment is awesome! I will never go back to working for the “man”. I wish you the best of luck.
I hope this helps.
