Question by atanism: how to find out if a brand name is already being used or copyrighted or trademarked?
I know of a good way which is to search the name on good search engines and check if its already in use, or check by searching for domain names from domain name services.
But is there a worlwide database of brand names that are legally registered, where I can find online? A more assuring way to find out if the brand name I just thought of is already being used by other people or organisations.

Or also to find out whether certain words or names are copyrighted, for eg; darth, galactus, etc…

Hi,

there’s a handy tool:

http://searchit.sitesell.com/go4cash.html

Use the “site legalities” search function and you can search for trademarks in 18 countries.

Question by Asian G: I just bought a domain name that was already owned?
ok, weird story here, I wanted a domain for a couple months now, I only now got around to getting it….but when I went to the domain it was taken (ads were on the page) I did a whois search and it said (through network solutions) it was taken, and was only taken last week…. sooooo I call up godddy.com and in my conversation with the phone agent he tells me the domain I wanted is STILL AVAILABLE! So….I tell him about the ads on the domain and the whois data I found and he says all his computers says its still available….so I buy it..

I get the domain and forward it to another site of mine…. after a while the domain now goes to my site….

What am I missing here????? How did I buy a domain that network slutions says is owned by someone else??? Should I worry?

What are my legal rights to this domain?
Please note: the whois data said the domain was taken by someone other than me a little over a week ago…and on the page was one of those parked pages with ads…the guy who had the domain wanted $$ for it….

I did not pay him, this domain DI NOT expire as the domain wasnt set to expire until nov. 2007. Godaddy gave me a domain someone else had as an active domain???

No, they offer free domain if you use their web hosting service.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

If you like to create websites (usually you will end up more than 1 website, I got more than 100 websites in about 6 months’ time), go for multiple web hosting services where you could host all your websites in one account.

I would like to suggest following webhosting which I use, they are excellent.

Hostmonster http://www.hostmonster.com/track/ryukenden/

They offer hosting of “unlimited domains” and you will get massive webspace of 300000 MB (300 GB ). They only charge .95/month and they offer “a free Domain Name” and installing service called “Fantastico”. By using Fantastico, you could create own forum, photo gallery, shopping cart (e-commerce),your own auction site and your own blogs within few seconds. They also offer “Free Website Builder” as well.
Visit the site to check details.

Question by Chrisily: How can I get a site domain name that is already taken?
There is a domain name that I really want to use, but it is already taken.

Is there some sort of waiting list for domains so that, if it were to become available, I could be next in line for it?
