Question by wendy2pendy: How do i get my Domain Name back?
No long ago i did a search to be sure that the web-site address i wanted to launch did not already exist. Convinced that it wasn’t existing, I went ahead to commission a web-site designer to register and design the web-site. I got the shock of my life some days ago when the designers told me that the name has been taken by a another person. My investigation revealed this “person” to be a site called “Domaincar” who specializes in using their computers to captures expired or pre-registered sites. Once you do a search, their system has a way of capturing that address (if it doesn’t exist) and register it. I am completely disgusted at this. I have written to them to transfer back to me the domain name, but they are yet to reply. Already i have incurred great cost on publicity for this site and i would love to know HOW DO I GET MY DOMAIN NAME/WEBSITE ADDRESS BACK? All suggestions would be appreciated, because i know i am not the only person affected by this kind of unethical practice.

You must be the person who registered it. By not registering it you have no rights to it and in fact you did exactly what these sites want you to do and that is show an interest in a site so they can park on it. You should have used somebody like Netsol to search for the address and then any of the dozens of trusted registars to register it the second you thought you wanted that address.
Now if you still want to have that address you have to show that you have a claim to that site and the current owner is just parking on it. The process will not be easy and will not be quick. I would suggest writting back to this outfit and ask them what they think is a fair fee for the domain name. If they come back with a number you are unwilling to pay then I would write them back that you are going to file a complaint with ICANN and you have the documentation to show they are illegally parking on the domain. This will probably get you another offer from them. To give you an idea the last group I had do this wanted 00.00 for the domain which then came down to 0 when I talked tough.
Sorry but just like anything else you need to be fast and assume your going to get screwed in business. If there is anything we can do to help please contact us.

Question by eliselane: How to get back domain that was being registered and with purchase confirmation?
On October 10, 200, we have registered www.duocuisine.com which was available for registration at that time. A purchase confirmation for this domain was received from ipower Web (the provider) at Oct 10, 07:52:14 AM PDT and later followed with an e-mail on account setup confirmation on the same date at 08:26:23 AM PDT. When we wanted to proceed to launch this domain web site, we were unable to set up with the password given.
We contacted ipower web about this and they told us the domain was already taken by other party.
After checking with WHOIS, they e-mail us an information that the registrant is Keyword Marketing, Inc. at P.O.Box 556, Main Street, Charlestown, West Indies, KN, United Kingdom and the record was created on October 11, 2006.
We are very upset with this situation and would like to investigate into this matter. Could you please advise the method or procedure? Is there any association or organization that we should contact for assistance in order to get back www.duoc

It sounds like someone regsitered it before iPower got their act together.
Depending on what country you ar in, it may be worth going for a .com.au (Australia) or .co.uk (UK) – just pick the relevent one for your country.
It will be better for your sites rankings anyway

Question by justanotheruser: Someone stole my domain, how do I get it back?
Basically a webhost has seized my domain because they claim I failed to pay them. But the information in the whois database indicates that I’m the owner, how do I get my domain back?
I paid them up front, for one year of service. Then they came around asking for money within that year. In fact the Better Business Bureau has more than 150 similar complaints. I’m not giving them any money I don’t owe them.

Question by poetgirl: If I use a free domain name can I go back and change it later?
I know it might move the site. If I wanted to use Weebly or Homestead, and you know it’s free to use their domain such as www.example@homstead.com rather than www.example.com. I want to use Homesteads, but can I go back and change it later to just a regular…dot com?

It would be “something.homesteads.com”, to change it, you would need to buy a domain. Most likely they wont allow you to change your sub-domain which is what you will get for free.
