You need a domain and hosting. The freedomain.co.nr may let you have a “nicer” domain name for your site (instead of say “Geocities”) but it wont store your site (web host).

Not sure of a free host that doesn’t do adds. They need to make $ somehow. Servers are expensive.

Question by Mommabear: Difference between “name server” and “domain name service”?
On the program I have both addresses are requested, and I thought they were the same thing. How are they different?

Best answer:

Answer by henry.shen@sbcglobal.net
They are referring the the same thing in reality in most of cases.
When “name server” is a server, DNS is the service provided by it.

Although Name Server can refer to other kinds of ones that offers naming services, it almost always means Domain Name Server practically. It manages names, and serves to do name resolution. For example, on Internet, we are connected by our IP addresses, so we have to rely on a DNS server for the correct IP address of a web site, say yahoo.com.

Question by New G: What is the relationship between search engines optimization and types of servers?
I bought a shared server for my website because one of my friends told me that, If bought a server you will get more visitors but some experts told me that , the dedicated server is the best not the shared.
dose this true ?
Because there are people say that whenever the largest server whenever you get more visitors from the search engine. Is this true?

Not at all, the server you are on has nothing to do with SEO, unless of course it’s blackballed.

Question by Kinger: Is there a difference between buying a domain name or hosting a website?
I’m looking to run a website for my father and I saw on yahoo.com that you could choose between hosting a website, and buying a domain name. I’m not too familiar with buying/hosting domains and websites so I’m clueless as to what I should have my dad do.

What would be better to do? Host a website or buy a domain? Or are they just about the same thing?

Thanks!

Web hosting is like going to a party…you need a place for everyone to go. The domain name is like the address that the party is at.

There are many sites that offer domains and hosting together, or if you find domain and hosting that’s offered from different companies, but much cheaper, just go with that. Once you purchase a domain name, most places will offer easy to understand directions about how to get your domain to work with the host you’re using. The same also applies to your hosting service.

Most places also have FAQ’s and Customer Service to help you.

I found a place that offers free hosting. Google: 110MB hosting…and you should find it. They don’t link any of their ads to their site. As far as domains go, there are lots of sources….just make sure you don’t get ripped off at one of those /yr places.
