First off, go ahead and buy a domain (around bucks). Making money on the internet is a lot of work, and you don’t want to spend all that time developing a website that you could lose control of.
The most important thing to focus on at this stage is creating some really fantastic content. Doesn’t matter what the niche is, but make something useful.
Once you have a steady amount of traffic (at least 100 unique visitors a day), think about adding advertising. AdSense is only profitable if you’re in a high paying niche. If your website is about knitting, it wouldn’t be the best option for you. Check out Project Wonderful (http://www.projectwonderful.com/) for another affiliate advertising option.
When your site has a substantial user base, you’ll be able to sell advertising directly. This is where you can start to make a salary from your website.
Good luck. Feel free to check out the blog below for more information on marketing your website.

Question by Proud mommy: How long does it usually take for a webhosting/digital graphics business to get started?
My fiance has had the business license and name since he was 16 and has been building contacts for the past three years. He is now actually starting to get customers. How long (estimated) will it take to actually make a profit?
We live in Texas if that helps

Question by Trevor J: Exchange 2003, Small Business Server 2003 Domain Name?
How do I register my domain name so my email will be transferred to my exchange server?
Best answer:
Answer by Jeremie I
The MX records of the domain tell which server IP to send the e-mail to.
It is a bit complex, but you need to register your domain name with a registar and then edit the MX records to reflect the external IP address assigned to the mail service.

Question by Meredith T: What is the best email hosting for my business?
This is specifically for email and not web hosting. Google Apps is too expense ( per user) and Yahoo is getting bad reviews. Are there any others that give you the email storage and a large email transfer rate. It must be online email storage.

Question by chaser_downer: I want to get a domain for a business website, I’m registering but there are so many options?
The .com is available and what I’m getting, should I buy .net .org as well?
Do I need?
Private Registration which helps protect against spam, fraud, identity theft and more by shielding your personal information from public view.
Business Registration which provides vital details of your business to millions of daily WHOIS searchers.
Certified and uncertified?
Are these important or just ways for them to get more money? Would just having the domain without anything else suffice? My website is going to be about fitness with free information plus services you can pay for.

I registered publicly and am very tired of the spam. I get more that 200 spam email a day. I would recommend Private Registration, with contact info on your website. As for certified or not…keep your money. You should check out tophost.com where hosts are rated and reviewed. Any other help let me know…
