Question by poetgirl: If I use a free domain name can I go back and change it later?
I know it might move the site. If I wanted to use Weebly or Homestead, and you know it’s free to use their domain such as www.example@homstead.com rather than www.example.com. I want to use Homesteads, but can I go back and change it later to just a regular…dot com?

It would be “something.homesteads.com”, to change it, you would need to buy a domain. Most likely they wont allow you to change your sub-domain which is what you will get for free.

If they are sup[plying this as part of a hosting deal you may not be able to move it. They would want a fee to transfer the domain name out as they have had to pay for it. You would also probably need then to pay for the domain.

Log inside your account and see if there’s an option to change that. Otherwise, contact yahoo and ask them directly.

Question by David Gender: How can I hide, or change my domain name’s registration on whois?
So I have a website that is promoted through my YouTube videos. I looked up my website on whois today and all my personal information that I used when registering my domain was showing. I was wondering if there was any way I could either hide this, or change the information on my whois domain look up. I just want to be more secure. Thanks.

See if your domain registrar offers Priviate Domain Registration. You have to pay a few dollars for it, but it will protect your information.

Question by Parvinder: To change domain name but not to change hosting servers?
I want to change my domain name but don’t want to change the hosting servers. I know that nameservers are required for that. Want to know what else is required. How the hosting providers will route the new domain name to my space.

Domains usually point to a particular directory on a server. You can have many domains point to many different locations on one server. The exact location is a function of the configuration of the web hosting software on the server (the host will do this for you). If you no longer want your old domain to point to the same site then you should make this change at the registrar (which might also be your host). So, let the host know your end goal and they should let you know if there is any action you need to take outside of the changes they will make.
