Question by dante45chicago: Who Are The Top Webhosting Companies that Allow .HTACCESS Files to be Uploaded to Virtual Server Directories?
I need to upload .HTACCESS file to a designated folder but Yahoo Small Business Web Hosting does not allow this. Please tell me of a few “Top Tier” web hosting companies that allow this. Please no “fly by night” or “offshore” web hosts that will be out of business tomorrow, thanks.

I LOVE hostmonster. Feature rich, super easy, great customer support. Inexpensive.
I use MySQL and php but do my web page editing by hand so I can’t comment on their website builder. They have Joomla and Drupal, though, and I’ve worked with Joomla a bit and it’s quite nice depending on what you want.
Hostmonster also has all kinds of email, e-commerce, and forum options.
Spend a bit of time browsing their website.

Question by jayztttight: What are the best web hosting companies (no spammers please)?
I have Dreamhost now. They are pretty good, but I was wondering if there was anything better. Feel free to link to sites that review web hosters also.
*It needs to be around 20 dollars a month (I pay 7 bucks a month for Dreamhost).
*PHP, MySQL, etc the whole gamut I need.
*It need to have a good way to upgrade. Meaning it can start off slow, but if I pick up more traffic, I can pay more to easily upgrade my bandwidth, etc.
So yeah give your thoughts, please no spammers with referral links. Also if you could find an article about this on digg (I couldn’t find one) that would also be great. Thanks in advance.

Question by TexasInHoc: How big are the servers used by the largest domain hosting companies? In terms of hosting capacity and in size?
Best answer:
Answer by Zenn
Wow Tex, that is a hard question to answer because you are being very broad in your question. To give you a simple answer, the size is different than your home computer in that servers are normally flat (not all, but most). They reside in racks on rails. The largest size is dependent on the type of server used by the hosting company. Capacity wise, you can have as many as 8 – 1tb drives and 64gb of RAM in one server with an elaborate amount of cores. These servers are expensive but they can hold numerous instances of virtual environments allowing them to be web hosting companies.
