Yahoo Geocities http://geocities.yahoo.com/ – your web address would be like geocities.com/your-Yahoo!-ID which is not too professional in my opinion. Geocities is good for personal websites, but for an international conference, that is too cheap. It doesnt give your conference the credibility it deserves.

Godaddy.com https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp?se=%2B&ci=260 has a hosting plan of only .85 per month, which I think is EXTREMELY AFFORDABLE. You can buy a domain name for the conference for .99 with GoDaddy so that you can have a professional looking web name www.yourinternationalconference.com – and having this type of URL alone is an effective marketing and branding tool for your business.

I suggest you go pay the minimum hosting fee, instead of going to a website free of cost. If you are attracting international visitors, using a free website such as Geocities puts a huge question mark on your conference’s credibility.

Question by “P” is for Piano: On average how much does it cost to register a domain name?
I’m just curious and if you could give me a good cheap place/website that could do it for me that would be great.

For example “www.Something.com” How much would that cost?

Best answer:

Answer by Jessica Queller
Usually somewhere in the range of US and US, depending on the registrar, the type of domain extension (.com, .net, .biz), and whatever the registrar’s promotions are (if any).

Some web hosts will offer you a bundled discount on domain name registration if you allow them to host your website and register the domain for you (so you can get the domain registered for US, for example, but only if you get it through your web host).

Question by futureuss: Suggestions for low cost website domain and hosting?
I am trying to find a low cost website host and domain seller for a non-profit organization. A local webdesigner donated their services and created us a beautiful, professional site and did it in Dreamweaver so that we can update it from our office without much skill. So the hosting must be able to work with Dreamweaver.

Question by Itzel: How much would it cost to get my own domain name for Freewebs?
I run a fansite on Freewebs and since it’s growing and people seem to like it so far, should I get a custom domain name for it? How much would it cost, and for those who have done it before, do you edit the site and everything pretty much the same way as a basic account?

Don’t trust any cheap service, many of them don’t allow you to have full control on your domain name. If you’re going to buy domain names, refer to:

http://www.goldpuma.com/

GoldPuma is the lowest cost service which is full-featured and really works for you (.99 /year). They offer free extras with every domain name:

Quick Blogcast
Hosting with Web site builder
Personalized Email Account
Starter Web Page For Sale/ Parked Page
Domain Parking
Domain Forwarding
Domain Masking
100-Pack Email Forwarding
Total DNS Control
Change of Registration
Status Alerts
Domain Locking

Good Luck!
