Question by bigmartincut: I want to create a site for restaurant reviews & want to find the best place for a domain name with hosting.?
I’m willing to pay a little extra, if necessary, for something that is both reliable and simple (simple as in easy to build the webpage that I’d like). I’d prefer a site that handled the domain name, web hosting and e-mail account(s). I appreciate any advice. Thanks. :)

Creating a website is not just a walk in the park. It costs money. You’re not going to get good bandwidth or a lot of memory without paying for anything. You’re not going to get a .com for free either.

Your question is a little confused… Do you want a Web site or a domain? A domain is something like example.com. A Web site is a set of associated resources that are served by a Web server. They’re very different things, although often times a domain will have a Web site and the Web site is often the only way a domain is used. But you can have a domain without a Web site (perhaps enabled just for FTP or email or telnet), and you can have a Web site without a domain if you’re OK with having somebody else’s domain in the address for your site.

If you want a site at your own domain, I recommend taking a look at NearlyFreeSpeech.net, since they’re way, way cheap and still give you a lot of power. It wouldn’t be appropriate for a corporate Web site, but you don’t sound like you’re on that road anyway.

I buy domain from namecheap and buy webhosting from website like http://aplis.net/
May be you can put your website project at freelance website like http://getafreelnacer.com/ and let many web designers bid for your project, you can then hire whoever you like.

Question by basketball25: once you register a domain name, what do you do to create the site?
I’ve got this program that helps me make web pages. I’m also about to get some webhosting space. Do I just upload my pages to the webhosting space?
yes, I have dreamweaver, and I think I might have an old version of frontpage…

You have to get it ‘hosted’ somewhere. Sometimes the company you registered the domain from offers hosting services as well. Contact them about hosting plans or if they can direct you to a hosting company. Before you host with anyone, ask if they have an application available that will allow you to build your website from within your hosting account. Most hosting companies have this and it will let you build your site without knowing too much about the technical stuff to build a website.

As far as uploading, some programs like Frontpage, let you upload in a certain way. Other programs like Dreamweaver let you use FTP. You need to find out how your particular program let’s you upload files—most are FTP. If yours is FTP, your hosting account will have a FTP function and most likely instructions on how to set your program up to upload your files. Since this is the most common way of uploading files, just search your application’s help file or ask the host directly for help. They’ll give you all the help you need because they want your site up and running so they can keep billing you :-)
