Question by haadyagob: My domain name has expired but my details are still on Whois?
I paid my subscription 2 weeks after it expired and now some anonymous person is using it. My domain provider won’t answer my letters or emails. Should I just give up on this and just register a new domain name and cut my losses?
http://domains.whois.com still shows MY details as domain owner. Other WHOIS sites says someone else. Confused!

You should still be able to contact the new domain owner through their proxy.

Question by Don Stevens: How long until I can register an expired domain name?
Let’s say a domain expires and the owner does not renew it. How long does it take until it’s up for grabs?

Answer by K-milk
It depends on the registrar, Some are kind enough to hold it for you, and send you e-mails to remind you, while some just let it go and don’t care. Usually, you are given a 30 day period before the name is up for grabs.
Also, you need to consider that some domains can be renewed automatically, so once it expires, it gets renewed and recharged on the credit card.

Question by Acesup: Is there a website that shows if a domain name has ever been registered even if it is expired now?
Sometimes when I am searching for domain names and a good one is available I wonder if someone had it at another time. For example I just registered twitterlogos.com. I think it is a decent name. Someone else already had twitterlogo.com and tweetlogos.com but not twitterlogos…makes you wonder if someone had it before.

In such cases, I would search the domain on http://www.Archive.org. If results are found, I can take a look how the website used to look like in the past.

I would recommend registering with JordanSoft; I have been using them for two years and they are cheap and reliable.

Question by jaminah m: How long will it take an expired domain name to be activated again after it has been renewed?
I have a domain name but it has expired on Aug 14, 2007. I have only renewed it on Aug 26 but until now it’s still on hold. The domain name servers are still at my previous host. How long will it take before it gets activated again?

Usually it takes hours rather than days.
Could be the payment is holding it up
