Question by onetwistedbutterfly: why when i type in my domain name into search engine it says expired web domain?

Best answer:

Answer by acidslide2002
First of all, which search engine are you talking about? Google??

Why would you search for your domain name anyway? Why not just type it directly in the Address Bar of your web browser?

If indeed you already tried typing it in the address bar but the page doesn’t show, and tried googling it, and after clicking on the link (with your domain name), it says something like “Your domain has expired”, then it probably is. Domain names are paid on a regular basis, depending on where you registered it, it can be between 1 year to 10 years.

Question by Tri-State Pleasure Parties: What is the name of those websites/search pages that are up on what were once expired domain names?
I don’t know how to ask this question (wording). But maybe someone has an idea of what I’m talking about. You go to maybe a misspelled domain name or an expired domain name and it’s an annoying search/ad page. What are these pages called?

Best answer:

Answer by Greg G
Parked Pages.

There are parking companies such as Sedo.com or Parked.com that build and host the page at no cost to the owner of the domain name.

Income is generated from the advertising links on the page and is split between the parking company and the domain name owner.

Question by haadyagob: My domain name has expired but my details are still on Whois?
I paid my subscription 2 weeks after it expired and now some anonymous person is using it. My domain provider won’t answer my letters or emails. Should I just give up on this and just register a new domain name and cut my losses?

Best answer:

Answer by Jane
You can contact the registry directly.
Eg for US domains contact ICANN
For UK domain names contact Nominet
They should be able to help you out.

If you are buying an expired domain name that is exactly what you are getting, the domain name. It is up to you to develop the name into something of value.
