Question by jeff_cougsfan: If i buy a domain name from godaddy without a web hosting plan, then what?
I just want to know what would happen if i bought a certain domain name from godaddy.com without choosing one of their web hosting plans. I want to do this to save money but will it still work? Can I host it from my home computer with a basic internet connection? are there any safety concerns associated with this?

Your better off using a server farm. Meaning maybe use the services of GoDaddy for the hosting. Usually you get 1 or 2 free domains with a hosting plan. They are pretty cheap if it is a linux hosting plan. A windows hosting plan would be a little more.
Basically, about 6$ a month if your just doing a basic site with out all the bells and whistles (secure server/shopping cart).

Question by moviefreak321654: I purchased a domain name through Godaddy will it show up in google searches?

Are you actually hosting a website with this domain name? If not, then it will not show up on Google.

If you are hosting a website with the domain, and it does not show up on Google, you just need to give it time. More sites need to link to your site for it to show up. This could take quite awhile, especially if it is a personal website, a blog, journal, forum, etc… and not a business site with affiliates or many other sites linking to it.

I can deal with setting up the ebay aucion part because I’m an established ebay seller but don’t understand a) how you transfer the domain name to someone else {and look like I know what I’m doing at the same time!!!} b) how can I prove to the buyer that it is mine before he is willing to hand over the cash.

Cheers tech wizards!

Give them all information to it, i.e. username/password and let them take over payments and you’re done. You don’t have to proove it to them on ebay, people will believe you if your seller rating is high. If it’s 0 then you’ll have problems though…

You can have anyone host your domain services. They are yours as long as you pay for them. You just need to point your domain’s host name(s) at the IP address that your hoster gives to you.

For example, you can buy your domain from GoDaddy. Purchase hosting services from another company like Verizon or Network Solutions. Then point your domain to the IP address provided by the hosting company.

GoDaddy and your new hoster can help you with the process. Don’t be afraid to give them a call.
They know specifics that are not available here at Y! Answers.

I hope this helps.

Question by Manbearpig: Transfer domain name from GoDaddy?
I am trying to transfer my domain away from GoDaddy. To do so, GoDaddy says I must cancel my WHOIS privacy provided by GoDaddy’s subsidiary DomainsByProxy. Doing this will revert the WHOIS to my name and address. My question is this: From where will GoDaddy pull the data for my WHOIS information? From my DomainsByProxy account information, or from my current GoDaddy account information? Or from the original sign up info?

Best answer:

Answer by UncleRobert
DO NOT GIVE UP YOUR WHOIS PRIVACY!

If You Give It Up Then Your Address, Phone, Fax Are All Made Public. Anybody Who Does a Search For Your Domain Name Will Be Able To See Your Private Info.
