Question by maryquast: What do you think is the best web site host?
I’m a writer and my website is hosted by Yahoo right now and I’m paying a month. I’d like to find another site to transfer to. I have a blog on Blogger too… might be nice to have it all together. I also want to be able to send newsletter to members of my mailing list. Any suggestions or advice?

GoDaddy offers a nice combination of all of those combined (Hosting, Quickblog Cast, Email Marketing) but it would cost about the same.

I had a web page and domain name on yahoo and used all their site building tools. After a while it got too expensive so I closed my account. I checked online and I STILL own the domain so I opened up a new account with JustHost and went to transfer the domain name to them but I can’t get access to my old domain!! Every time I click on it it says unknown address. HELP!!!

I don’t want the service to host a website. I just want external space to upload and download files from anywhere, but I can’t find anything that doesn’t lump the domain name in.

I’ve been using free web hosting for a couple of years now, and I think it’s time for me to register a domain name and start a REAL site. I have read numerous reviews about different web hosts to later discover elsewhere that they’re nothing but scams. I am aware that many of the “top 10 best web hosts” sites that show up so frequently are mainly just given to sites who bid for the highest mark. I want to make sure I am hosting my site at a safe, reliable, and guaranteed place before I give out my credit card number!
I’m looking for a web host that allows me to have a good amount of space and bandwidth, a WordPress install, and 1 domain name included for a decent pay-annually price.
Any recommendations are extremely appreciated, and if anyone has any experience with certain web hosts, please share! Thank you so much.

I personally use gem3.com.
They are more of a small company, but this is good because they are very helpful. I am always messing around, and when I screw something up say with the Perl modules or something, I just shoot them an email or call and have it fixed.
I pay a month for my service, and I love that you can use paypal without signing up. This was there is no trust issues, can’t hold your credit card hostage like the big companies.
Domains are as always about a year.
And of course you can install wordpress, they give you 5 MySQL databases and PHP 4 or 5 (your choice).
