Question by The Irish Dragon: Why is ie the domain name registration for Ireland?
The Irish for Ireland is Éire, so “ei” would seem more logical. What’s the origin of “ie”? All I can think of is first and last letters of the French for Ireland (Irlande). What’s the real reason?

I suppose it is because “ir” was already taken by Iran, so they combined the i from Ireland with the e from Eire and came up with “ie”.
