With brand new laptop, in a wifi area I try to connect to internet , I get wifi connected message but when I click on IE I get the error message – don’t recognize the domain name server DNS of microsoft.com
I called HP and they want to sell me a router but if I’m getting a strong wifi signal the hotspot has the router, right?

don’t buy a router from them that’s there attempt at making money off you when they don’t have the knowledge to answer your question.
you could try for another connection in the area. try other site’s, the homepage you selected could be down. i had that problem once and i updated my ram and it seemed to fix my issue. try using another web browser to determine if it’s ie or the site, or last but not least your connection.
if all else fail’s take it back and ask for an exchange could be the card is damaged.
yes the hotspot is the wirelss connection access point.
