iGoogle can be made public, or kept private for a specific group, and no html required, they’ve already set up the framework. With several gigs of free space, as well as links with email and calendar, it could be a good start.

For actually selling stuff online though, you can’t beat the infrastructure and exposure that ebay, amazon, or newegg have worked so long and hard to get going.

Question by holacarinados: Should I take an offer to buy a domain name that I own, and don’t plan to use?
I am a writer and for a hobby, come up with domain names I think would be appealing to businesses. As a little experiment I bought about six available domain names for each. I just got an offer from someone who saw one of the names parked on my domain dealer’s website so the offer would be binding. I got a market appraisal of the name that was 4X higher than the offer. What would be the best way to make a decision without going through a microanalysis of how to negotiate? (or SHOULD I go through some microanalysis – like market research, etc.)?

Question by Shiju: Which is the best plan for domain name registration and website hosting in seo point of view ?
What are the factors should i care when selecting these two factors? Which is affect seo and web traffic?

Best answer:

Answer by 7-4-7
Hosting no factors.. Domain name.. Think about it carefully. Use keyword rich phrases for your domain name.

e.g. John Smith in Michigan has a plumbing company.

Don’t buy www.johnsmithplumbing.com

See if www.michiganplumber.com is free… or similar…

Use your noddle and you’re halfway there…..

Everyone who answers here will write you a commercial, so take all answers with a grain of salt, including mine.

My choice is hostgator. I put my two websites, plus those of four clients (which means, their five websites) there. If you sign up for THREE years, you get a lower rate. They give excellent support, and what they call their “hatchling” plan (that’s their lowest-price plan) will likely give you as much as you need. (It gave each of our websites far more than enough space!)

Their control panel is quite easy to use and gives you great control, and they have several pieces of web software you *can* (but don’t have to) add to your website for free. Also, you can add email to your website, either using *their* email system, or forwarding your email addresses to a system of your choice (like, say, gmail, as we do).

Hostgator comes highly recommended at webhostingtalk.com

You could also go to webhostingtalk.com (which is a kind of geek “consumer reports”) for comparisons of ALL web hosts and domain name registrars.

What do you think? Answer below!
