Question by ikenna: when I configure a vpn active directory in my home, do i need to register the domain name to connect users?
for example my ip is 10.10.80.80 and my domain controller is forward.com. should I register forward.com on internet or just leave it on the domain controller

Best answer:

Answer by Mark B
unless forward.com is registered it won’t be found outside of your LAN.

If you have a fixed IP address (10.10.80.80)……use that to connect from the outside in. If that is dynacially assigned by ISP it will work for a period of days till your ISP changes it.

If forward.com isn’t registered and you didn’t buy a static Ip google DYNDNS updater, you may be able to use that.

Question by boredbachur: Hi, Is it possible to register a domain/website without having to give my real name etc?
I don’t want people to be able to check up who the registered owner is on whois.

There probably are, but if you can’t find them, might I suggest using a fake name?

I haven’t registered one before, so…

Question by Monolith: How do i register a domain name?

Best answer:

Answer by Joey H
By using a domain registrar such as:

http://www.godaddy.com
http://www.register.com

These aren’t the only ones but the first two that come to mind.

Question by rectar: Can I register a domain name at one place and get hosting from another ?
If say I register my domain name at godaddy.com , but I want to use free webhosting at atspace.com with that domain name. How does that work?

Best answer:

Answer by Heinz M
Yes!
You need to get the DNS addresses (1 and 2) from atspace and input them under domain forwarding at Godaddy.com.
If you already have an address (URL) at atspace, you can also just forward the domain to that and use ‘masking’.
It becomes active in anywhere from 2 hours to 48 hours.
