Question by ricky007: whois script error on port 43?
Hi,

I am trying to run a whois domain name checking script on my windows and linux hosting, which currently uses Port 43. I am getting an error when searching for domains on port 43. Can you suggest a different port I can use?

I would really like to get this domain checking script working.

Thanks,
Ricky
Is there another way around doing it, as I really need to get this domain name check script working ASAP?

Answer by God’s Man
Protocol / Name:nicname

Port Description:Whois. Is the whois service, used to provide domain-level info. Sites today rarely run whois servers, is mostly just used now by Internic. Somewhat similar in function to “finger” and can suffer from same data-driven attacks. Disable this port on all hosts.

As described above it is disabled(default) on modern hosts. So if you are desperate call web-admin(if using remote one)

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by GeorgeBushJr.: Is it possible to construct a php script to only work with a specific web hosting company?
I’m trying to a find a web hosting company besides the one that the company recommends because they charge too much. And so far, I learned the hard way that Yahoo does not support it. What do I need to look for?

Hello,

What is the name of this script? The PHP script most likely can be used anywhere just the programmer suggests a company he deals with.

Problem depends on where the PHP processing file is. Is it elsewhere and you didn’t put in the direct, full URL to it in the forms action attribute? Or your hosting site doesn’t allow PHP or SMTP.
