Question by Jamunat: What is difference between Hosting and Domain server?
or Hosting and Domain service?

Best answer:

Answer by Colinc
Hosting is the act of allowing web sites to be run on a machine. This can be shared between multiple internet domains. A domain server generally refers to different type of domain, as in Windows NT or Active Directory domains. A domain also refers to the actual web site’s registered name just to cause confusion. To own an internet domain name you need to register it with a recognised authority. You can then host this domain on a hosting company’s server. There are also Domain Name Servers run by the domain registrars, these keep the lists of IP addresses related to internet domain names.

You can download php from php.net.

However if you are in a shared hosting environment you might not be able to update it (until the provider decides it’s time for an update)

Question by palisetty SUMAN: is name server and domain server, both the same?

Best answer:

Answer by JoelKatz
No. A name server only converts names to numbers. A domain server actually serves the content of a domain. (Unless someone is using the term “domain sever” to mean “domain *name* server”, in which case it means the same thing as name server.)

Question by kfount400: How do you point your website to a domain name when using your own server?

Best answer:

Answer by Colinc
You need to register the domain name, then set the registrar’s dns A and CNAME records to point to your server. If this is really your own server at home, you will need to subscribe to a fixed IP address and set port forwarding on the router pointing to your machine.

What do you think? Answer below!
