Question by Alyssa W: I’m starting a webcomic, what website host is best?
I am starting a webcomic, and I want to know what web host (preferably free but doesn’t have to be) would be best to use for the graphics-heavy pictures I’d need to upload. Any webcomic authors out there with suggestions? Thanks.

Since you need to host large images in large quantities, I would strongly recommend iPage because their hosting plan supports unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth! They include a free domain name too, apart from free site building tools, free online store, and the best of all, free Google, Yahoo! & Facebook Marketing Credits! Check out iPage review here http://www.100webhosting.com/ipage-review/

I do not recommend any free web hosting. This is because free web hosting usually has a lot of limitations such as limited disk space, limited bandwidth and the server is not stable (lots of downtime).

Most shared web-hosting companies will provide you with some sort of web-based control panel. You will also get ftp and/or ssh access to your web space on the server/s.

In the web control panel you can create databases/email addresses move and rename file, upload etc.

Before you do all that you should register a domain name.
Many web hosting companies also register domains.
When you register you domain you will enter 2 or more name-servers. These name-servers will be provided by the register or the hosting company or even third party dns providers.

Please make sure to CAREFULLY research your registrar and hosting company/package BEFORE you commit to anything.

Take you time.

In summary:
1) register domain
2) sign up for hosting package
3) setup DNS(zone file)
4) upload content to web-server.

Good Luck!

Host Gator will let you start at around /month and they are a pretty reliable host. You can also get a domain through them, though many people, including I, myself, prefer to registers domains separate using Godaddy, which is cheap and a good place to centralize your domain properties. The advantage of registering a domain with a different host than your site is that if you wish to change hosts you can do it with minimal hassle. You just have to repoint the domain.

If cost is a big issue, you might just want to start with a free host like Google’s Blogger or Squidoo. Both of these allow you to operate income-producing sites (most free hosts do not). Many of us in Internet marketing like to test a niche with a Blogger blog+a few EzineArticle submissions, then start a full website if it shows promise.

If you want to find more info about doing business online than you likely can comprehend, check the Warrior Forum. It’s the biggest IM forum on the web. If you go to the Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum and click “ratings” in the red bar, you will see all the 5 star threads, which will give you a good education quick.
