Question by bobby m: my domain name and hosting is with yahoo. Why can’t their own search engine find it. This just is not right.
I believe Yahoo search should find a site that they have hosted without having to wait for weeks to have it crawled.

two reasons reason A) just because they host you doesnt mean you get free search results, they cost money and B) the searhc is prioritized by most prefered result, which i doubt your website is preffered by the people searching for stuff ..

Question by Johnny rotten: Is this illegal ? A rival company has used a domain name the same as our company name to direct people to them?
I wanted to set up a web page for our business.On trying to secure the domain name i found that a rival company has secured the .co.uk domain name with our name in it.
When you do a search it takes you to a page which re-directs you to their website!.
Can they legally do this ?.I know they can secure any domain name that’s available but can it be used in this way ?

Not being an attorney my best guess is that unless you took out a copy right on the name or trade marked it you have little recourse.

I made a similar mistake about 10 years or more ago, I filmed a television commercial and used my company name in the commercial prior to obtaining the domain name for it. Later when I applied for the domain name, I discovered the .com was in use elsewhere. However, .org, .net, .biz, .mobi, were all open and available so I registered them.

Your difficulty appears to be the redirect page, and that is an entirely different can of worms.

I would suggest changing your domain spelling enough to get away from the redirect.

Or change your domain altogether which would completely solve your problem.

You state you want to set up a web page; and this leads me to believe you haven’t gone to that expense yet, and are in the planning stages. So changing your domain name shouldn’t be that difficult.

If you are adamant about the domain name you’ve chosen, then I suggest using .mobi . There are millions more people with mobile devices than computers, and if you build your site to be .mobi compliant, you’ll open up a big world of customers.

People in third world countries may not have computers, but they do have mobile phones to communicate with, think about it.

Question by Evan M: I have hosting and a domain name. I want to change my domain name, how do I do this? ?
I have payed for a full year of my current domain, and I am currently paying monthly for my hosting. I would like to keep my hosting but change my domain name associated with it. Can I have more than 1 domain name on my hosting? I know i’ll have to buy registration for my new domain but I just want to make sure I can change it one way or another with my hosting.

Answer by DogmaBites
All you have to do is point the new dns names to your existing host. This will occur on your name server for the new domain.

3 things need to work together. Domain registration, which points to your name servers; Domain name servers which point dns names to IP addresses; and physical hosts.

If you have:
www.domain_1.com -> 1.2.3.4,

just add:
www.domain_2.com -> 1.2.3.4

You may have to configure your host to respond to the two domain names.

Question by ssp_pintu: what is the job prospects for a Certified Search Engine Optimizer? which is the avg salary for this profession
Is Search Engine Optimization a good career? How much salary one can get in this area?

Best answer:

Answer by Terry R
The “certifications” in SEO are more wall art than functional certifications. Most SEOs prove their abilities in real world marketing and use that experience to move into a in house or agency job. Just having a piece of paper that says you have taken a class will not get you a job in SEO.

That being said, SEO is just becoming a great career option for those who can prove their worth. Pay is based on experience and can range from 30K a year to 150K a year based on ability and that is really juse a ballpark range. Some professional SEOs make in excess of a half a mill a year from contracts, incentives and other performance related pay arrangements.

Just starting out, expect to be paid the low end of that range.
