There probably are, but if you can’t find them, might I suggest using a fake name?
I haven’t registered one before, so…

You don’t build a site on a name. You can a purchase a name from several places on the net, and assign it to a web page on you host later.

Question by jeff_cougsfan: If i buy a domain name from godaddy without a web hosting plan, then what?
I just want to know what would happen if i bought a certain domain name from godaddy.com without choosing one of their web hosting plans. I want to do this to save money but will it still work? Can I host it from my home computer with a basic internet connection? are there any safety concerns associated with this?

Your better off using a server farm. Meaning maybe use the services of GoDaddy for the hosting. Usually you get 1 or 2 free domains with a hosting plan. They are pretty cheap if it is a linux hosting plan. A windows hosting plan would be a little more.
Basically, about 6$ a month if your just doing a basic site with out all the bells and whistles (secure server/shopping cart).

: Will vistaprint let me transfer my domain without hassle?
This is my website: bodyjewelryonabudget,com
I’ve played around with the vistaprint trial but I can’t do much with it. I didn’t know I was gonna be stuck using the templates they provide. The domain name is registered to vistaprint and not me. I want to transfer to hostgator, will vistaprint let me and will they charge a fee?
Of course I meant bodyjewelryonabudget.com but that doesn’t matter. lol

It is usual for companies to charge your for a transfer of the domain name. The domain name could cost you less than but I’ve heard that they charge around – for the transfer. You should have bought your domain separately from a domain registrar and used it with vistaprint.
Nevertheless, whether they will do it or not, only they can answer. Call their customer support (or send an email) and ask them if they can transfer the domain over to you for a charge. If they do, pay the price, transfer over and be happy

Your question is a little confused… Do you want a Web site or a domain? A domain is something like example.com. A Web site is a set of associated resources that are served by a Web server. They’re very different things, although often times a domain will have a Web site and the Web site is often the only way a domain is used. But you can have a domain without a Web site (perhaps enabled just for FTP or email or telnet), and you can have a Web site without a domain if you’re OK with having somebody else’s domain in the address for your site.
If you want a site at your own domain, I recommend taking a look at NearlyFreeSpeech.net, since they’re way, way cheap and still give you a lot of power. It wouldn’t be appropriate for a corporate Web site, but you don’t sound like you’re on that road anyway.
